Abstract

Peace by Peace is a community organising project led by young people with support from the American Friends Service Committee. The organisation trains youth in conflict resolution and violence reduction using arts and activism. It also partners with other local organisations to organise a range of community building activities from refurbishing community houses to urban gardening. This panel will share promising directions for policy and practice on youth leadership to rebuild communities and prevent violence using the example of post-Katrina New Orleans. Staff from Peace by Piece will present on the program streams such as: peer to peer violence prevention, youth leadership, community building, and the arts.
