Session Submission Summary

Criminalization and Medicalization

Wed, Nov 16, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Marlborough B, 2nd Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

How should we understand the relationship between criminal justice and medicine? Following the “experimental turn” researchers have increasingly drawn on medical ethics and methodology; police departments now employ mental health expertise to diffuse incidents in the field; an aging prison population is pressing corrections departments to grapple with geriatric care and nursing. Each paper in this panel addresses the promise and peril of medicine for the field of criminology.
