NIJ's Inquiries into Wrongful Conviction

Wed, Nov 16, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

NIJ has engaged in an ongoing effort to identify and understand the underlying causes of wrongful convictions. NIJ has been at the forefront of this scholarship since the early 1990s with its formative inquiries into DNA exonerations. Since that time, NIJ has funded a number of studies and policy activities aimed at understanding the factors that cause miscarriages of justice and the far reaching harm these events create. This panel will discuss recent NIJ supported literature in the area of wrongful conviction and highlight identified research gaps on this critical policy issue.
