Contemporary Trends in White-Collar and Corporate Crime Control Practices

Abstract

This thematic panel addresses contemporary trends in white-collar and corporate crime. Puma Shen aims to introduce white-collar crime analysis to current discussion of punishment ideologies; an undertaking is inspired by Garland’s "Culture of Control." William Black is one of the original co-founders of Bank Whistleblowers United (BWU), a pro bono effort to restore the rule of law to Wall Street. He explains there are senior whistleblowers at several of the largest originators and sellers of fraudulent mortgage products. Erica Fissel focuses on organizations sentenced in federal district courts; specifically, the relationships between organizational characteristics and sentencing outcomes. Charles Gilberti examines recent trends in the demographic composition and sentencing of white-collar offenders in Federal courts.
