Gunshot detection technology (GDT) uses acoustic sensors to identify the sound of a gunshot and triangulate its position. The studies in this session explore the utility of GDT in exploring crime trends and their impact. The first study provides a synthesis of the emerging literature on GDT. The second study presents preliminary analyses as to whether firearm related crime and other Part I crimes are impacted by the implementation of GDT across three cities in the US. The third study examines the neighborhood-level economic impact of surges in gun violence in six cities in the US with ShotSpotter©, National Establishment Time Series© data, data from a major credit bureau, and interviews with major stakeholders in neighborhoods of interest.
