Comparative Perspectives on the Death Penalty: An Agenda for the Next Generation of Capital Punishment Research

Wed, Nov 16, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Royal, 3rd Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

This panel offers a section of diverse, nuanced examination of death penalty phenomena. It offers a challenging and comprehensive analysis of issues critical to the abolition debate from a cross-national perspective. In addition to the addressing the universal arguments for abolition, capital punishment is presented from the standpoints of the co-victims of murder, the path traveled towards abolition in Middle Eastern countries, and the underlying issues separating death penalty rationales derived from divine law versus secular law.
