Policing, Race and Communities in the UK

Abstract

This panel considers the impacts and consequences of police practice and strategic policies of governance on racialized communities in the UK. Papers in the panel are united around questions about the relationship between the police and minority ethnic communities and the nature and effects of police presence in shared community spaces. The panel will also address broader questions about whether policing is constitutive or inimical to the formation of community and how such practices connect to histories of migration, belonging and British identity.
