The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program Across Time and Place

Abstract

The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program was founded by Lori Pompa at Temple University in 1997. Since that time, the program has grown to include over 600 courses offered across 40 states and 6 countries. Now, perhaps more than ever, the educational opportunities afforded to people who are incarcerated have assumed a national importance. This panel brings together Inside-Out instructors who are at different phases of having taught the program (first class in-progress; one class taught; several classes taught) across very different locales in the U.S. and Canada. Each panelist will be provided the same set of questions to answer regarding their Inside-Out experience, and the discussion that follows will identify the common and contrasting themes across time and place in the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program.
