Toward a Criminology of Atrocity

Abstract
Although mass atrocity affects millions of people worldwide, atrocity crime remains an under-examined area within criminology. This panel will explore how criminological theories can inform and be informed by atrocity crime. We will begin by exploring indicators and risk factors of violence. Then, we consider perpetrators of atrocity, followed by an examination of how this violence is gendered. The panel will conclude by turning its attention to justice after atrocity.
