Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Chart A, Riverside Complex

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

Due to recent media and scholarly attention to issues in corrections, restrictive housing has become an issue of national prominence for corrections administrators. Although it is a common practice and policy in the corrections, understanding its broader use and impacts are vital to ensuring the safety of the correctional environment while also safeguarding the well-being of staff and inmates. Led by the Director of the National Institute of Justice, panelists will discuss the current body of knowledge on this important and often times controversial corrections practice as well as on-going policy reform in a large department of correction.
