Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This panel examines data collected for MAPIT (Motivational Assessment Program to Initiate Treatment), a multi-site, randomized controlled trial funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA). MAPIT tests the impact of face-to-face motivational interviewing (MI) versus a motivational computer program (MAPIT) among probationers in two large urban settings. These interventions are aimed at increasing probationers’ motivation to initiate, engage, and stay in treatment as well as reduce substance use. The first paper discusses the relationship between trauma, substance use, criminal justice risk, and gender. The second paper explores trajectories of substance use and how those trajectories are associated with criminal behavior. The third paper examines the relationship between mental health, substance use, and substance consequences. The last two papers present the results from the study overall, as well as the cost and cost-effectiveness analysis of the interventions.
