Testing Theory and Exploring Crimes of High Public Concern through Cross-National Research (ISRD)

Abstract

The International Self-Report Delinquency Study is an international collaborative study collecting data on juvenile delinquency and victimization, using a standardized self-report survey conducted in school settings among students in grades 7,8 and 9 (or equivalent grades for children in the age bracket 12-16), randomly selected from schools in two medium or large cities. The primary focus is on Europe, but the sample also includes non-European countries. For more information, see http://www.northeastern.edu/isrd/
The ISRD has progressed to its third sweep (2012-2016), and first findings are beginning to emerge. The questionnaire reflects both cutting-edge theoretical developments in criminology, and important contemporary policy concerns. The panel exemplifies these efforts by including one paper testing PO Wikström’s situational action theory (SAT), and three papers from substantial areas featuring high on the current policy agendas: domestic violence against children, the link between crime and immigration, and hate/bias motivated offending.
