Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

As part of a multi-year, multi-city effort to examine underground gun markets in major U.S. cities, the papers in this panel analyze crime guns and their possessors to understand how individuals at high risk for violence are able to obtain firearms in underground markets in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston. Data analyzed includes trace data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), police administrative records, and original data collected in interviews with gun offenders about gun use and access.
