Exploring Substance Use with the Rochester Youth Development Study: Session II

Abstract

This is the second of two thematic panels which features research on substance use stemming from the ongoing Rochester Youth Development Study (RYDS). This panel features two related lines of research on the causes and consequences of substance use. The first re-examines known risk factors for substance use, in particular military service and gang membership, using propensity scores to create comparison groups. The second draws on interactional theory to examine the extent to which different types of substance use, as defined by factor analysis, are predictive of predictive of family and employment indicators.
