Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This panel will present results from three related investigations funded through OJJDP to study the prevention of gun violence in the state of Massachusetts from 2010 to 2015. One investigation examines the effectiveness of the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative (SSYI) using a regression discontinuity design to examine community-level offending and victimization in 11 treatment (SSYI) cities and 22 comparison communities. The second talk will explore the interaction of police - community relationships, norms of violence, and concentrated disadvantage on crime and violence in SSYI communities. The third paper presents results from an interrupted time series analysis used to examine how violent crime in Boston has been impacted as different violence prevention and intervention initiatives, such as SSYI, have been introduced from 2010 to 2015 in targeted neighborhoods within the city.
