Abstract

This panel will discuss the ways in which Black women have and continue to contribute to leadership and transformative efforts at addressing punishment and victimization against Black women and the communities they are invested in. In doing so, panelists will provide an overview of the role Black female criminologists have had in advancing social and systemic inequities studies both within and outside of academia. Additionally, panelists will discuss the ways Black women have been both victims and offenders in the criminal justice system and how Black women led organizations have addressed both issues. Lastly, recognizing that in order to promote true social change for all people, this panel will discuss solutions and strategies that includes racial and ally coalition building to promote transformative social change for all marginalized communities.
