Abstract

These papers shed light on the link between poverty, educational attainment, and involvement with the criminal justice system. Using diverse empirical approaches, from experimental to qualitative, the three contributions reveal multiple pathways by which criminal records, the bail system, and the prison system are linked with economic outcomes and the likelihood of social mobility.
