Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
This roundtable discussion privileges college students’ perspectives on the rewards and challenges of participating in an Inside-Out course, where, for a semester, incarcerated "inside" and campus-based "outside" students come together in a classroom behind the walls of a jail or prison. Students will discuss key topics of: Adjusting to the Inside-Out Model; Unexpected Emotional Reactions; Victims, Victimization and Restorative Justice; Bringing “Academic/Book Learning” to Life; Collaborative Learning and the Group Project; and Critical Considerations of Privilege and Power. Inside-Out instructors will also offer their insights on collaborating with students in this unique pedagogical model.
