Roundtable: Highlights from NIJ’s Technical Working Group—Criminal Justice Response to Intimate Partner Violence: Law Enforcement, Prosecution, and the Judiciary

Abstract

The National Institute of Justice has encouraged and supported research intended to improve criminal justice policy and practice related to intimate partner violence for over four decades through research solicitations and evaluations, workshops, and dissemination efforts. In March of 2016, a technical working group of researchers and practitioners was convened to discuss the future of research into the criminal justice response to intimate partner victims across three broad categories: Law Enforcement, Courts/Judiciary, and Prosecution. Researchers and practitioners at the meeting explored relevant research and practice issues to generate and rank short- and long-term research questions extending into the next 15 years. In this ASC Roundtable, we describe the short- and long-term intimate partner violence research priorities specifically related to the criminal justice system response to victims identified by our panel and invite further feedback.
