Roundtable: Gender and Re-entry Experiences--What are the Challenges?

Thu, Nov 17, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Durham, 3rd Level

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

As an inherent consequence of the growing incapacitation rates of men and women worldwide, more and more former detainees face the challenges that follow upon release. Although scholars have pointed at some differences in the post-release experiences of men and women, the basic needs after release are likely to be gender neutral, as has been argued by prof. Candace Kruttschnitt during her 2015 Presidential Address to the American Society of Criminology. In light of last year’s Presidential Address, the aim of this complete roundtable is to elaborate on the current state of research and knowledge on gendered aspects of re-entry.
