Roundtable: Why Crime Dropped? More Drugs, Less Crime

Abstract

The crime drop has produced a whole academic literature that is unable to explain the decline. This Session will focus on the simplest explanation of all: a simultaneous increase in the supply, and decrease in demand for illegal drugs led to a drop in the price of illegal drugs, which in turn led to a drop in crime. All discussants of this session have contributed to a special issue of Dialectical Anthropology on this topic.
