Roundtable: Researcher-Practitioner Partnerships – What BJA and its Grantees have Learned from Over 200 Smart Suite Programs

Abstract

BJA has developed and supported a “smart” suite of programs that promote and require a strategic partnerships between criminal justice practitioners and local research partners to identify, select, and help implement the most effective strategies to reduce and prevent crime. Since 2009, BJA has provided support for over 200 awards that have required researcher-practitioner partnerships. BJA’s Smart Suite of programs are in the following areas: Policing (Smart Policing); Prosecution (Smart Prosecution); Indigent Defense (Smart Defense); Probation and Parole (Smart Supervision); Offender Reentry (Smart Reentry); Violence Reduction (Project Safe Neighborhoods); Prescription Drug Monitoring (PDMP); Pretrial (Smart Pretrial) and Place-Based Community-Oriented Crime Reduction and Revitalization (Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation). This roundtable will feature what works, promising practices, and lessons learned from these partnerships.
