Roundtable: Developing Juvenile Justice Reentry Measurement Standards

Abstract

Recognizing the need to measure what works to support youths as they transition back to the community, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) launched the Juvenile Reentry Measurement Standards project to provide the field with a set of national standards to measure the effectiveness of reentry services and quantify the path to achieve positive youth outcomes. OJJDP selected the Performance-based Standards Learning Institute (PbS) to lead the work in partnership with the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators (CJCA) and the Vera Institute of Justice.
This roundtable will include: (1) a brief introduction of OJJDP’s vision for the work and overview of project activities; (2) a presentation of the findings from a systematic literature review synthesizing results from each of the domains of interest (i.e. education, employment, desistance, family connections); (3) a presentation of findings from a national practice scan and discussion of how the research and practice components have interacted to inform the development of a set of draft standards; and (4) a presentation of the current draft standards and dialogue with members of the technical working group and audience to further revise and refine the measures.
