Roundtable: Being an Agent of Change in the Criminal Justice System: Preparation and Practice

Abstract

The criminal justice program at the University of Washington Tacoma places an emphasis on social justice and preparing students to become agents of change. However, no matter students’ enthusiasm and idealism, they enter a firmly established system as one person. Recognizing the need for change but effectuating the change is challenging and can be perceived negatively by those already engaged in the system. This roundtable will discuss the understanding of acting as an agent of change, from the perspective of students and faculty, balanced with students’ applied experience through their internship and volunteer efforts.
