Repeat Victimization in the Gay and Lesbian Community a Routine Activity Approach

Sat, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marriott, Room 306, 3rd Floor

Abstract

This paper explores repeat victimization of gay and lesbian individuals in a nationally representative Canadian sample. When compared to other minority groups in Canada, gay and lesbian individuals experience significantly higher rates of victimization and this victimization is not explained by the same variables that are signifiant for the total sample. Routine activities theory is used to explore potential causes for the high rate of victimization experience by gay and lesbian people.
