Convicting and Sentencing Sex Traffickers in the United States:

Abstract

Human sex trafficking is a worldwide problem that victimizes millions of persons each year. To address this problem in the United States, both federal and state law proscribes various forms of human sex trafficking. However, little is known about the prosecution and sentencing of persons charged with these crimes. This paper analyzes the criminal appeals of persons convicted for human sex trafficking, and related offenses, which were decided by federal courts of appeal between 2007 and 2016.
