Classifying Sex Offenders Using the Static-99: An Exploration Into Race and False Positives

Wed, Nov 15, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marriott, Room 415, 4th Floor

Abstract

The Statis-99 is the most widely used sex offender risk assessment instrument in North America. The tool is designed to be used explicitly with adult male offenders. Research suggests that the Static-99 is moderately accurate in predicting sexual and violent recidivism in samples of offenders from the United Kingdom and the United States. However, few studies have considered false positives or looked at classification by race using the Static-99. The current study explores this relationship.
