Trends in College Student Conduct Violations: A Comparison of Fraternity/Sorority Organizations, Athletes, ROTC, and Honors Students

Abstract

Research has suggested that college students oftentimes engage in problematic behaviors that can have an impact on their academic and personal lives. Such problematic behaviors can include binge drinking, drug-use, and academic misconduct. Moreover, research has found that these problematic behaviors can vary in their intensity and effect across student groups. The current research compares trends across several years of student conduct data in violations, demographics, and the sanction used to address violations among four student groups. The four student groups used for comparison in the current research are 1) Fraternity/Sorority Organizations, 2) Athletes, 3) ROTC, and 4) Honors Students. Policy implications, limitations, and future directions for research will be discussed.
