Criminal Charges against Mentally Disordered Offenders

Abstract

Mentally disordered offenders are frequently classified as high-risk to re-offend. As the results of the present study reveal, drug use is one of major reasons for re-incarceration among mentally disordered offenders. This study also reveals that approximately 70 percent of mentally disordered offenders had been previously admitted to correctional facilities, either as an adult or a juvenile. Other characteristics of mentally disordered offenders such as criminal charges show a distinctive pattern while comparing with non-mentally-disordered offenders.
