First Person HOPE: Perspectives on the Honest Opportunity Probation with Enforcement Demonstration Field Experiment from HOPE Probationers and Team Members

Abstract

This presentation discusses results of interviews done with HOPE probationers and HOPE team members who participated in the recently completed four site NIJ/BJA Honest Opportunity Probation with Enforcement Demonstration Field Experiment. Participants share insight into their understandings of HOPE, what they feel worked and what did not within HOPE, how HOPE influenced offender decision making and perceptions of program fairness. Preliminary conclusions are drawn about which probationers might be more likely to benefit from the HOPE approach.
