The Public's Attitudes on Israel Police

Abstract

Police effectiveness relies on public legitimacy, expressed willingness to report the crime, identify suspects and condemn lawbreakers.
The public's desire to step in and create partnerships to the police regroup and build new mechanisms, while allowing communities to participate in shaping the strategy of the police and the definition of its priorities.
This approach requires the police to open dialogue with citizens, to strengthen the legitimacy and trust among them.
Public attitudes towards the police and the trust that the public gives the police are a cornerstone of the work of the police and the work of police officers in the field.
In 2016, Israeli police carried out a survey among citizens that provides station-level results. This survey is a main tool for station commanders and allows to examine
the public's appreciation of police performance in general, and in the vicinity of the survey participant’s residential area in particular; confidence and trust in the police; the image of the police force and its officers; police efficiency; expectations and preferences regarding police activity; willing to cooperate with police and volunteerism; a sense of personal safety, Rates of injury offenses, reports to the police and more.
