Gang members are rarely seen as victims. Prior research acknowledges that gangs are appealing options for youth who reside in dysfunctional homes and feel isolated by society. This study examines the childhood life trajectories of gang and crew members to examine the events that impacted their decision to join a gang. The participants reveal their experiences with school, law enforcement and home life. Gangs have existed in the United States for over a century. The information revealed in this study is to guide effective solutions, interventions and further gang related research.
