The Effects of Police Stress on Police Integrity within the Context of China

Sat, Nov 18, 11:00am to 12:20pm, Marriott, Room 403, 4th Floor

Abstract

Police work is widely recognized as one of the most stressful occupations. Although police stress has received considerable scholarly attention concerning its correlates and consequences, few studies have examined the relationship between police stress and police integrity, a concept that is related to police misconduct and corruption. This gap in prior research is worrisome in that it may make us fail to identify an effective way to improve police integrity which is critical in shaping public trust and police legitimacy. This study represents a focused interest in assessing the impact of police stress on police integrity within the Chinese society. Specifically, this study intends to examine whether or to what extent police stress affects police integrity, with a special focus on the effect of organization stressors.
