A Comparative Study of Dating Violence Among College Students Between US and China

Sat, Nov 18, 9:30 to 10:50am, Marriott, Room 402, 4th Floor

Abstract

Previous research has shown that females are more likely to be victimized in intimate partner relationships, including dating relationships, both in Western and Eastern countries. As for the different cultural and religious background, the United States and China show distinct characteristics in dating violence. With a rising number of individuals, especially college students experiencing and reporting dating violence, it has become more and more important to examine if there has been any difference in violence in the dating relationships among college students in the United States and China. Using data from the International Dating Violence Study (IDVS) dataset, this study documents the differences in physical assault victimization as well as perpetration among college students in these two countries.
