Child Pornography: A Qualitative Examination of Offender Motivations

Abstract

Child pornography offenders are now a substantial percentage of the Federal Bureau of Prison’s population. This study examines offenders’ motives for viewing such material. I qualitatively interviewed 35 child pornography offenders in the community to determine how individual characteristics, preferences, and opportunity influence viewing and possessing child pornography.
