Examining the Effectiveness of Conducted Energy Devices at Incapacitating Citizens

Abstract

Since their emergence within the field of policing, the use of conducted energy devices (CEDs) have produced a great deal of research and debate. However, few studies have shed light on the extent to which CEDs are actually successful at incapacitating citizens. To examine this proposition, data from the Assessing Police Use of Force Policy and Outcomes study are examined to assess effectiveness. Discussion of the findings and implications are offered.
