A firm understanding of the collateral consequences of juvenile justice system involvement has been hampered the selection artifacts. When looking at outcomes of arrest or conviction in the juvenile system, it is difficult to create an appropriate matched comparison group. Add Health data provide a unique opportunity to look at the collateral consequences of juvenile arrest and conviction longitudinally, in a national sample. The sample is large and allows for greater breadth of propensity matching than most small sample designs. In this paper, we will compare juveniles with similar self-reported delinquent behavior who were either arrested or not arrested, convicted or not convicted as a juvenile. Outcomes will include academic attainment, employment, and arrests in the transition to adulthood.
