If You See Something, Do You Say Something?: Why People Report Potential Terrorism Activity

Abstract

Why are some people more likely to report potential terrorism than others? What impacts a person’s likelihood of reporting potential terrorism, relative to more common crimes? This project examines how views of law enforcement, community norms, incident-level factors, and individual-level factors impact propensity to report potential terrorism activity. Data for this project came from a national sample, using a survey-embedded conjoint experiment. The conjoint design allows participants to respond to multiple experimental treatments, allowing researchers to examine between-person and within-person differences.
