Abstract

Violence against children unfortunately transcends cultural borders despite the Convention on the Rights of a Child. In every country of the world there are children who continue to fear and experience violence and abuse. A large part of this abuse — which can be physical, sexual or psychological — remains hidden, but what is reported or made public is heart-rending. Traditionally the level of violence against children in Jamaica was related to a combination of the economic and social inequalities and the failure to properly implement existing legal protections. However In the wake of the brutal slaying of several children one is forced to revisit the issue of violence against children. This research will explore the recent factors that have led to the recent spate of violence against Children in Jamaica.
