There have been a number of studies indicating that victimization experiences, perceptions of disorder and community concern increase fear of crime. It is not clear, however, whether this phenomenon has an effect on life satisfaction. This study intended to investigate the effects of fear stimulating factors(e.g., victimization, disorder, community concern) and fear of crime on life satisfaction among Korean adolescents. Attention has been given to the mediating role of fear of crime.
The results indicated that bullying victimization, perceptions of disorder, community concern as well as fear had negative effects on life satisfaction. More importantly, fear of crime mediated the effects of fear stimulating factors on life satisfaction. Suggestions for research and policies were discussed based on the findings.
