Local Access to Family Planning Services and Crime Rates

Abstract

In 2000, Donohue and Levitt asserted that as much as 50% of the then recent crime drop could be attributed to the availability of legal abortion noting that crime rates “began to fall roughly 18 years after abortion legalization.” This research will examine whether access to local family planning services impacts crime rates by merging the location of Planned Parenthood and UCR crime data.
