Just Because it’s Difficult to Conduct Criminology Experiments Doesn’t Mean you Shouldn’t Try

Thu, Nov 16, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Marriott, Franklin 2, 4th Floor

Abstract

This presentation will discuss the influence of the late Travis Hirschi’s mentorship on the work and career of a former student who, for her dissertation, conducted the first experimental study of self-control theory. The presentation will share reflections on the experience of working with Dr. Hirschi on the study process and how his influence shaped her own approach to conducting experiments in the field of criminology and mentoring junior researchers in their own research.
