Abstract

The use of common operational picture (COP) technology gives law enforcement and its public safety response partners the capacity to develop a shared situational awareness to support effective and timely decision-making. These technologies are solutions that collate and display information relevant for situational awareness. Despite the importance of COP technology in ensuring effective coordination and response by law enforcement agencies, little is known about either the types and characteristics of technology being used by agencies across the country or their effectiveness or impact on outcomes. This presentation, which represents a portion of a larger study on COP technology, describes the results from a market review of COP technology solutions, with particular application to policing.
