Who Experiences or Witnesses Anti-Social Behaviour?

Abstract

In the UK, anti-social behaviour is defined as: “conduct that has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any person” (Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014). This paper will present findings from an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded project which explores: ‘who experiences or witnesses anti-social behaviour and in what context?’ The study analyses data from four existing sources: Understanding Society, the Crime Survey for England and Wales, the 2011 UK Census and the English Indices of Deprivation. Collectively, these data sources are used to build a comprehensive picture of the individuals, households and areas most likely to experience ASB.
