Police Officers' Perceptions of Physical Fitness Standards

Sat, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marriott, Room 408, 4th Floor

Abstract

The current study explores the perceptions and attitudes of police officers regarding physical fitness and agility requirements. A survey of police officers in a Southeast agency examined the level of importance officers place on physical fitness and agility testing for both new recruits and incumbent officers, relative to other tasks and competencies. Officers also self-reported the amount of time they spend engaging in various tasks, including those which are physically demanding. Implications arising from the findings are discussed.
