Establishing the Research Basis for Guidelines through Meta-analyses and Systematic Reviews

• In Event: How Research Was Synthesized and Translated into Guidelines for Juvenile Courts

Abstract

To establish a research evidence base for the Guideline Statements, the core research team first conducted four systematic reviews based on a uniform process. Because of the different foci of each review, the methods used to synthesize results were different (e.g., quantitative versus qualitative outcomes) but all followed standard methodological expectations for the conduct of systematic reviews. This paper will discuss the process of synthesizing the research, identifying practice elements associated with the findings, and assessing the strength and credibility of the practice elements.
