Strategies to Avoid Offending among Female Desisters and Persisters

Fri, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon K, 5th Floor

Abstract

Research suggests that individuals on probation and parole typically live in economically distressed neighborhoods and that women typically resort to rather constraining behavioral actions that limit their participation in public life. However, it is not clear whether the strategies women use to avoid offending is tied to recidivism outcomes. Building from insights of previous research, we examine what strategies female desisters and persisters use to avoid reoffending and whether the use of such strategies vary by race and economic status.
