The Cross-National Study on Causes of Corruption

Abstract

This paper examines corruption with a cross-national analysis using data from World Values Surveys(WVS), World Bank, and Corruption Perception Index(CPI). This study uses the sociological perspectives that helps explain the relationship between culture and corruption.
The primary objective of this paper is to determine whether culture and structural factors influence corruption with the macro-level analysis. In light of this objective, it will use ordinary least squares (OLS) linear regression.
After matching the samples of WVS to that of CPI for each country, there are 53 samples to be analyzed. This study examines the direct and interactive effects of cultures and structures on corruption. Based on findings, it will provide policy implications.
