Using Linked Administrative Data to Estimate the Effects of Paternal Incarceration on Children: Is It a Viable Possibility?

Abstract

The goal of this article is to use administrative data on all birth certificate records in New York City (NYC) and all jail incarcerations in NYC to see if a sufficiently high-quality match can be made between birth records and correctional records to facilitate a new vein of research that seeks to estimate the consequences of paternal incarceration for American children’s outcomes.
