The goal of this article is to use administrative data on all birth certificate records in New York City (NYC) and all jail incarcerations in NYC to see if a sufficiently high-quality match can be made between birth records and correctional records to facilitate a new vein of research that seeks to estimate the consequences of paternal incarceration for American children’s outcomes.
