The National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTH) is a toll-free hotline available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that has been serving victims, service providers, law enforcement, and the public since 2007. The Administration for Children and Families is sponsoring the first independent evaluation of the NHTH to support its efforts to provide and improve services for trafficking victims. Key evaluation questions pertain to who and why users contact the NHTH, what services the NHTH provides to users, the organizational structure and procedures of the NHTH, and the strengths and limitations of the NHTH.
This presentation discusses findings from the first phase of the NHTH evaluation. We present results from an analysis of retrospective data collected by the NHTH that includes information about user demographics, type of trafficking, caller needs, and actions taken during or as a result of calls. We also share findings from interviews with NHTH staff and focus groups with hotline users including survivors, law enforcement, and service providers.
